In the summer, a Norski might like to spend the day fishing for northern or menominee, then sit by the campfire playing a game of sheepshead, smear or cat and mouse, shooing away the sewing needles. In the winter, be sure to bring your favorite hot dish when you go to a covered-dish meal, especially if it contains lutefisk. Some people consider it a whoopensocker. Others think just the opposite. When it’s time to celebrate your cousin Joe’s golden birthday, he’ll probably want some German potato salad with a little schnittlauch and a few picnics, although he already has a tavern belly and should take it easy.
